Liters to Centigrams Conversion
1. 1 liter of water equals 100,000 centigrams (10⁵ cg).
2. 1 liter of ethanol equals about 78,900 centigrams (7.89 × 10⁴ cg).
3. 1 mg/L equals 0.1 cg/L, 1 g/L equals 100 cg/L, and 1 kg/L equals 100,000 cg/L.

How Big Is a Centigram?
| Unit | Symbol | In centigrams |
|---|---|---|
| Microgram | µg | 0.0001 cg |
| Milligram | mg | 0.1 cg |
| Gram | g | 100 cg |
| Ounce | oz | 2,834.95 cg |
| Pound | lb | 45,359.24 cg |
| Kilogram | kg | 100,000 cg |
| Metric ton | t | 100,000,000 cg |
Three Steps
- Enter the volume in liters
- Choose a liquid from the dropdown, or choose Custom density and type your own figure with its unit
- Press Convert to read the mass in centigrams — the Swap button runs it the other way, from centigrams back to liters
The Math
Density:
mass (cg) = volume (L) × density (kg/L) × 100,000
Concentration:
mass (cg) = volume (L) × concentration (cg/L)
Since 1 kg = 100,000 cg, a density in kg/L converts directly to centigrams per liter. If the kilogram figure is what you actually need, the liters to kilograms converter skips the extra step.
Worked Example
You have 2.5 L of saline solution at 9 g/L and need the total dissolved mass in centigrams.
9 g/L = 900 cg/L
2.5 × 900 = 2,250 cg

| Concentration | Centigrams per liter |
|---|---|

Real Uses
- Preparing reagent masses from measured liquid volumes in the lab
- Checking ingredient mass per liter in food and beverage work
- Converting solution strength to total mass in chemistry
- Scaling industrial batches by volume and weight
One Thing to Watch
For solutions, the concentration must refer to the substance you actually want in centigrams. A "9 g/L saline solution" tells you the total dissolved salt, not the mass of any single ion unless that ion is what was measured. At trace levels it is usually easier to work in micrograms per liter and scale up at the end.
FAQs
Can I convert liters to centigrams without density or concentration?
No. Volume alone cannot give you mass.
Is a centigram bigger than a milligram?
Yes. One centigram equals 10 milligrams.
Which is bigger, a centigram or a nanogram?
A centigram is far bigger: one centigram equals 10,000,000 nanograms. For measurements that small, liters to nanograms is the page you want.
Why does the result change depending on the substance?
Denser liquids contain more mass per liter, so the centigram value is higher.
